The Embassy of Denmark in The Hague is looking for a new colleague to join our energy team. Almost 40 years of ambitious energy policies have put Denmark in the lead in the renewable energy industry when it comes to wind power, smart grid, district heating and energy efficiency.
Together with the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Utilities (MCEU) and the Danish Energy Agency (DEA), the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is offering an exciting opportunity to make a difference in one of Denmark’s biggest export markets for energy technology.
About the job:
At the Danish Embassy in The Hague, you will work to enhance the cooperation between Dutch and Danish authorities in the energy sector and strengthen export of Danish energy solutions, with a main focus on energy efficiency in buildings and district heating.The goal is to strengthen the sustainable development in both countries and increase Danish export of energy technology to the Netherlands
Both improved energy efficiency in buildings and district heating are expected to play a major role for the decarbonization of the built environment in the Netherlands. In both fields, Danish experiences and technologies have a lot to offer. It will be crucial that you are able to create strong networks and relationships with national and regional stakeholders.
A key task will be to make sure the cooperation with the Dutch authorities translates into value and specific leads for the Danish companies. You will be the coordinator of several initiatives, and responsible for following up on leads as well as manage the logistics of workshops, high-level visits and study tours.
You will be hired at the Embassy of Denmark in The Hague and be part of the Embassy staff of around 20 employees. In your daily work, you will report to the Head of the energy team. You will work closely with colleagues in our trade department and be involved in commercial cases and export promotion related to energy. You will also be associated with the Trade Council energy team and work closely with TC’s commercial team across the Benelux, the international office of the MCEU, the DEA’s office for Global Cooperation and the MFA in Copenhagen.
Qualifications:
- Relevant academic education, e.g. in science, engineering, social science or business.
- Experience with public authorities in either Denmark and/or the Netherlands
- Good technical and commercial understanding of energy solutions and personal experience with cooperation between the private and public sector.
- Prior experience with green energy in the private sector is a plus.
- Project coordination/ management skills.
- Knowledge of energy policy and regulation.
- Ability to forge close relations to Danish companies and authorities as well as local authorities.
- Fluency in English. Knowledge of Danish and Dutch is not a requirement, but will be considered an advantage.
- A team player who values a good working environment with focus on strong cooperation.
- Ability to manage many relations and projects simultaneously – and to identify business opportunities and expand connections.
- Knowledge of Dutch business culture.
Terms:
- You will be employed at the Embassy until the end of 2024 with the possibility of extension. Your salary will be determined according to qualifications and after individual agreement.
- Employment requires security approval from the Danish authorities.

The Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities is responsible for national and international efforts to prevent climate change. Through visionary green leadership we aim to achieve the Danish Government's target to reduce Danish greenhouse gas emissions by 70 percent by 2030.
The Danish Energy Agency is an implementing agency under MCEU responsible for tasks linked to energy production, supply and consumption, as well as Danish efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The Agency is also responsible for supporting the economical optimization of utilities that in addition to energy includes water, waste and telecommunication.
Energy Governance Partnership (EGP):
The EGP programme focusses on bilateral Government to Government cooperation on energy between Denmark and a number of industrialized countries including the Netherlands. Denmark has more than 40 years of experience in transforming and greening its energy system – going from black to green.
The experience that Denmark has acquired through the years now serves as inspiration to countries around the world while experience made elsewhere helps furthering the sustainable development agenda in Denmark. Through the exchange of experience internationally, the EGP programme aims on increasing the effect on the global reduction of greenhouse gasses significantly.
